SOCIAL
NETWORKS (Wikipedia) According to the Wikipedia, a social network is a
social structure made of nodes
which are generally individuals or organizations. It indicates
the ways in which they
are connected through various social familiarities ranging from
casual acquaintance
to close familial bonds. The maximum size of social networks
tends to be around
150 people (Dunbar's number) and the average size around
124.
SOCIAL NETWORK
THEORY
Social network theory
views social relationships in terms of nodes and ties. Nodes
are the individual actors within the networks, and ties are the relationships between
the actors. There can be many kinds of ties between the nodes. In its most simple form,
a social network is a map of all of the relevant ties between the nodes being studied.
INTERNET NETWORKS
STATISTICS
The value of any network is
correlated to the number of direct users it has.
A network of only two is nearly useless, whereas a network of many thousands
or millions can be very powerful. Through tracking of the number of IP addresses
any particular network controls, we get an idea of relative percentages of Internet
traffic that a given network probably handles. IP address control is one factor in
the calculation of the KNODES index.

INSNA - The Study of Social
Networks
Network analysis is based on the intuitive notion that these patterns are
important features of the lives of the individuals who display them. Network
analysts believe that how an individual lives depends in large part on how that
individual is tied into the larger web of social connections. Many believe, moreover,
that the success or failure of societies and organizations often depends on the
patterning of their internal structure.

Local and Global Business
Networks
|
A business network can be defined as a group of people that have
some kind of commercial relationship. It could be a boss-employee, buyer-supplier,
colleague-colleague, etc. According to experts,
business networking functions best when individuals offer to help others
to find connections, rather than "cold-calling" on prospects themselves.
